Visit Owensboro Launches Bluegrass Clash Sports Summit with 11 Events and 4,300 Athletes
OWENSBORO, KY — Owensboro is preparing to become one of Kentucky's most active sports destinations this July as Visit Owensboro launches the inaugural Bluegrass Clash Sports Summit, a two-weekend celebration of sports, competition, entertainment, and tourism.
The first-ever Bluegrass Clash Sports Summit will feature 11 sporting events across two weekends, July 10-12 and July 17-19, bringing an estimated 4,300 athletes and thousands of family members, spectators, coaches, and visitors to Owensboro.
The event showcases the continued growth of Owensboro's sports tourism industry and highlights the community's ability to host a wide variety of regional, national, and world championship-level competitions.
From baseball, softball, basketball, tennis, bowling, disc golf, mountain biking, trail running, taekwondo, cornhole, and fitness competitions, the Bluegrass Clash creates opportunities for athletes of all ages and skill levels to compete while experiencing everything Owensboro has to offer.
Among the featured events are the American Cornhole Organization World Championships at the Owensboro Convention Center, the historic Dust Bowl Basketball Tournament, USSSA Baseball and Softball tournaments, the Owensboro Open Tennis Tournament, Bourbon and Bowling, The Forge Challenge, Battle on the Bluegrass Taekwondo Competition, and several outdoor endurance events hosted throughout the community.
The Bluegrass Clash represents far more than athletic competition.
Sports tourism continues to be one of the fastest-growing segments of the travel industry, generating hotel stays, restaurant traffic, retail spending, and visitor activity throughout local communities. The two-week event is expected to create significant economic impact for Owensboro-area businesses while introducing new visitors to the city's attractions, entertainment venues, restaurants, and riverfront district.
The timing aligns with a period of unprecedented momentum for Owensboro's tourism economy.
Recent investments in sports facilities, downtown development, riverfront attractions, hospitality infrastructure, and visitor experiences have positioned Owensboro as one of Kentucky's emerging sports tourism destinations. The Bluegrass Clash is designed to showcase those assets while creating a signature event capable of attracting athletes and visitors from across the region.
"This is more than a collection of tournaments," said Mark Calitri, President & CEO of Visit Owensboro. "The Bluegrass Clash showcases what happens when community partners work together to create experiences that attract visitors, generate economic impact, and strengthen Owensboro's position as a premier sports tourism destination."
In addition to competition, visitors will enjoy a full lineup of entertainment throughout both weekends.
Friday After 5 and The Eric Group will present free live concerts downtown, including nationally touring party band Sushi Roll on July 11 and the popular Downtown Summer Jam featuring Paradise Kitty on July 18. Athletes and visitors can also enjoy attractions including Maui's Indoor Theme Park, Holes to Go Mini Golf, River City Pickleball Club, Lucky's Cornhole, and numerous local restaurants and entertainment venues.
The event is supported through collaboration between Visit Owensboro, the City of Owensboro, Owensboro Parks and Recreation, Daviess County, Daviess County Parks and Recreation, Oak View Group, local sports organizations, and community partners.
The bigger story is simple.
Owensboro is no longer hosting a single tournament at a time. The community is now capable of hosting multiple major sporting events simultaneously while delivering the facilities, entertainment, accommodations, and visitor experiences today's athletes and families expect.
With 11 events, more than 4,300 athletes, world championship competition, free concerts, and activities across the community, the inaugural Bluegrass Clash Sports Summit represents another milestone in Owensboro's growing reputation as a sports tourism leader.
For athletes, families, and visitors, Owensboro will be the center of the action this July.
