Owensboro Burger Week Winners Drive Tourism, Local Impact, and Community Energy | Mark Calitri

Hillbilly’s BBQ claimed the official Burger Week title with its “Double Tap” burger — a food truck operation rising to the top in a competitive field. Libertalia Coffee captured the People’s Choice Award with its “Buc-ee Brisket Jam Burger,” winning over the public with creativity, energy, and a full experience that drove strong engagement.

Two winners. Two paths. One message.

Owensboro shows up.

“Every restaurant that participated was a winner,” said Mark Calitri, President & CEO of Visit Owensboro. “Burger Week was never about selling hamburgers. It’s about bringing our community together and creating real economic impact that supports our local restaurants, their employees, and their families.”

That is the foundation of the event.

Visit Owensboro helped co-found Burger Week alongside the City of Owensboro with a clear goal — create something that fills restaurants, drives traffic, and builds momentum during a key time of year. What started as a simple idea has grown into one of the most anticipated food events in Kentucky.

Local media coverage reinforced that momentum, highlighting both participation and community engagement:

The impact is clear.

Restaurants stay busy. Staff picks up more hours. Visitors come into town. Locals rediscover places they have not visited in years. New businesses gain exposure. Established favorites reinforce their brand.

That is how a tourism-driven event works.

Burger Week now stands as a strong example of how Owensboro continues to build a vibrant, experience-driven economy. It complements a growing list of events and attractions that position the city as a destination — from nationally recognized barbecue and bourbon experiences to expanding sports tourism and year-round riverfront activity.

The energy matters.

The buzz across social media, packed dining rooms, and lines outside restaurants tell the real story. People are engaged. They are exploring. They are spending time — and money — in Owensboro.

That momentum does not happen by accident.

It comes from intentional collaboration between Visit Owensboro, the City of Owensboro, local businesses, and a community that continues to support what is being built.

Burger Week is proof of concept.

When you create something people care about, they show up.

When they show up, the entire community wins.
