By Mark Calitri, President & CEO, Visit Owensboro
Owensboro continues to show up in ways that matter.
This spring, our community will host a national conference bringing nearly 300 attendees from across the country right here to the Owensboro Convention Center.
That’s not just another event on the calendar. That’s hotel rooms filled, restaurants busy, and new visitors experiencing Owensboro for the first time.
As President & CEO of Visit Owensboro, I look at events like this through one lens—impact. When a national conference chooses Owensboro, it brings in outside dollars, fills hotel rooms, and creates real movement across our local economy.
A National Conference Choosing Owensboro
The Care for the Caregiver Conference will take place April 30 through May 2 at the Owensboro Convention Center, drawing caregivers from across the country for three days of connection and education.
This isn’t a local meeting.
This is a national conference with speakers who collectively reach more than 1.5 million people. It’s also been hosted in major cities like San Antonio.
Now it’s coming to Owensboro.
Why This Matters for Owensboro Tourism
This is exactly how you grow a destination.
When Owensboro attracts a national conference, it creates real impact:
- Hotel rooms filled across the city
- Restaurants and small businesses see increased traffic
- Visitors experience our downtown and riverfront
- Owensboro gains national exposure
This conference alone brings nearly 300 visitors into our market—people who may have never been here before.
That’s how tourism works.
More Than a Meeting — It’s an Experience
This group isn’t just coming in for sessions.
They’re experiencing Owensboro.
Local businesses and downtown locations will be part of the experience, giving visitors a reason to explore, stay longer, and come back.
We don’t just host meetings.
We create experiences that people remember.
Competing for National Conferences
Here’s the bigger picture.
Events like this don’t just land anywhere.
They choose destinations that can deliver—facilities, hospitality, and a community that shows up.
Owensboro continues to prove it can compete with larger cities and win national conferences that drive real economic impact.
The Bottom Line
This is what success looks like.
Bringing people in.
Filling hotel rooms.
Driving spending across the community.
Positioning Owensboro as a destination for national meetings and conventions.
One event at a time.
