Visit Owensboro Creates 11-Sport, Multi-Weekend Bluegrass Clash

Visit Owensboro created the
Bluegrass Clash because sports tourism does not grow by accident.

It takes planning. It takes partners. It takes a team willing to build something new.

The Bluegrass Clash is an 11-sport, multi-weekend event designed to bring more teams, families, coaches, and visitors to Owensboro. That means hotel rooms, restaurant traffic, downtown spending, and more people experiencing our city.

This is not just about putting games on a schedule. Visit Owensboro built this event to connect sports with the full Owensboro experience. Families can come for competition and stay for Friday After 5, Maui’s entertainment complex, downtown restaurants, Smothers Park, and our incredible riverfront scene along the Ohio River.

“This event shows what happens when our team gets aggressive, creative, and works with the right partners,” said Mark Calitri, President & CEO of Visit Owensboro. “Bluegrass Clash took collaboration across sports, tourism, venues, attractions, and local businesses. That is how you build something bigger than a tournament. You create an experience that brings people here, fills hotels, and creates real spending for our community.”

Bluegrass Clash is another example of Visit Owensboro doing the work, building the event, and giving visitors a reason to choose Owensboro.
