Record Results. Conservative Budget. Bold Vision.
One of the most important responsibilities of leadership is knowing when to celebrate success—and when to remain disciplined.
This week, the Visit Owensboro Board of Directors approved a $1.068 million budget for the coming fiscal year. While our community is coming off a record $262.9 million in visitor spending and our strongest hotel occupancy year ever, we chose a conservative financial approach because that's how strong organizations plan for long-term success.
As President & CEO of Visit Owensboro, I believe our job is simple: create new reasons for people to visit Owensboro, stay in our hotels, spend money in our local businesses, and strengthen our economy.
That's exactly what this budget is designed to do.
Tourism continues to be one of Owensboro's strongest economic engines. Our convention business has grown from 10 annual conventions to 25, with our sights now set on 30. New attractions, expanded sports tourism, and strategic destination marketing continue to create overnight stays and bring new dollars into our community.
We're also preparing for the opening of the Bluegrass Fieldhouse and the new championship pickleball complex. Together, these facilities will position Owensboro to compete for tournaments and events that generate economic impact for years to come.
At the same time, we recognize the challenges ahead. Hotel revenues have leveled as new properties enter the market, and uncertainty remains surrounding Kentucky's tourism matching funds. That's why our budget reflects discipline, careful planning, and responsible stewardship of every tourism dollar.
I'm also grateful to our Board of Directors for their leadership, especially outgoing Chairman Claude Bacon for seven years of outstanding service, and congratulations to Will Wathen and Andrew Howard as they begin their new leadership roles.
Momentum doesn't happen by accident. It comes from a clear plan, strong partnerships, and people willing to think beyond today.
The work continues, and the future of Visit Owensboro has never been brighter.
